Look, I get it, a new Nautilus is a big deal, and earlier this week Patek Philippe announced several new examples, and people are scrambling to share their thoughts on the new 5811 and its siblings. As for me, I'm excited to write about the two watches I think are the best in recent announcements, the extremely complicated 5204G and the really cool 5935G. You can find my place in the Nautilus series, because if we're talking about the purchasing power of my own happy assumptions, I'm looking for something more interesting.

Interesting...and complicated, as this article will focus on two new Patek Philippe products, the 5204G Split-Second Perpetual Calendar Chronograph and the 5935A World Time Flyback Chronograph. Do you remember the "reasons for higher education" poster for big houses and supercars? If you don't like cars, you can just use a photo of either of these two watches. 5204G large complication
Starting with the 5204G-001 luxury replica watches, it is essentially a platinum version of the existing 5204R, originally introduced 10 years ago in 2012, but recently updated to a grey dial in 2021. This new version matches its white precious metal case with an olive green sunburst dial, continuing the tradition of QP chronographs such as the 2499 and 5270, offering a combination, then by equipping the chronograph with a split-seconds function (by setting it on the crown) ).

When I started looking at pictures of the new 5204G, I found that its overall vibe reminded me of another very big complication from Patek Philippe, the 5004. Since the 5204 came out a year after the 5004 was retired, perhaps the new 5204G is one step closer to seeing some steel versions. While this 5204G has no particular restrictions, it's worth noting that Patek Philippe only produced about a dozen 5004s a year in 2011. Like its rose gold sibling, the 5204G is priced as if you wrote it on a piece of paper and then slid it across the table. If I were a rich guy-because gosh-I'd love the 5935A. As an extension of my fascination with travel watches, I love the romance of world timepieces, especially those that originate from Cotillard's nature (I wrote a bit about it here, more about it in Watches: Hodinkee Guide). I know I know. It's just the time zone of the full hour, but the idea of ​​the whole world on the wrist has a very old charm that the new 5935 only amplifies by combining a stainless steel case with a stunning dial and a special movement.

Let's start with the movement, as this is the first time the CH 28-520 HU has been used in a steel watch. For the 5935A, this combination does a great job, especially when it comes to the gentle tread of the chronograph on an already complicated dial. Dimensions are also good, with the 5935A measuring 41mm wide and 12.75mm thick, while featuring an automatic movement with two rather useful complications.

Then we come to the dial, which Patek Philippe describes as rose gold-plated with a carbon pattern and an charcoal grey tone. Did I mention that I like Patek Philippe's use of black dial furniture? I did, but feel free to add charcoal to this list - first generation 5270, final 5004, Briggs Cunningham and frankly jaw-dropping 1526. I just love the mix of rose dial, dark and clear markers, and a carbon-effect center finish.

Interestingly, Patek says the carbon pattern is a reference. 6007 LE from 2020, but let's not forget 2017's 5208T-010 for Only Watch (yes, I had to google that reference), or the unique 5004T (thank you, Ben).
